Our Assisted Living AV System for Palagio Senior Living Center!

We’re excited to share our latest project at Palagio Senior Living Center in North Florida! We installed an Assisted Living AV system that includes over 15 displays, 7 digital media players, hundreds of speakers, and even a gaming lounge. The best part? Everything is easy to control through a simple system.

This project was a full Ascend experience. We handled the design, programming, installation, and now provide 24/7 support. The Palagio team wanted a lively space for residents, and they needed a system that their staff could manage without technical headaches. Our custom iPad app makes it easy to adjust sound, switch video sources, and control different areas of the building.

Custom AV for Every Space

Palagio’s Senior Living Center is spread over three floors. It has a grand lobby, coffee shop, dining rooms, a sunroom, a garden, spa, gym, craft room, pub, and more. Each area has its own audio and video system. For example, the massage room plays relaxing music, while the pub has a more upbeat vibe. The staff can switch between TV channels and movies to keep things fresh for the residents. Just like one our resort designs.

Helping Memory Care Residents Feel at Home

A special feature of this project was creating a solution for the Memory Care wing. Many residents have trouble remembering recent events but recognize familiar faces. We installed 20″ screens outside their rooms that display photos of their family members. This helps residents find their rooms and feel more comfortable. It was amazing to see this idea come to life.

This was our first Assisted Living AV system, and we learned a lot. A tailored AV setup can truly make a difference in the lives of residents. We’re excited to bring this expertise to more projects in the future.

Summary

Ascend was brought in by the Developer during the planning of this new building to collaborate on a high tech AV system for a new Assisted Living Facility in North Florida. The Developer was passionate about creating a space for seniors that feels like a home. They wanted their residents to have fun and enjoy plenty of events and enrichment activities. We were tasked with designing a fully integrated system that the staff operate easily without calling on an IT expert. That’s what we do.

We are proud of our programming magic that makes our systems so easy to use!

No IT experts are needed. We design for the hostess, the receptionist, and general staff to easily make volume adjustments, switch video sources and combine room zones.

We worked closely with the Developer to make all of their audio and video dreams come true. The requirements included video switching, audio zones, custom settings for unique zones, ADA compliance along with security measures. The building is three (3) floors, with activated zones on each floor. It took a considerable amount of networking design to pull this off!

So Many Zones!

What a fun place to retire! Our team talked about how nice it would be to live in a space like this in our golden years.

There is a grand lobby, a coffee shop, a giant dining room, a private dining room for parties, a sunroom, a terrace, garden, a spa, a gym, a massage room, a craft room, a well-appointed pub (yeah!), a Chef’s Table kitchen for live cooking demos, a reception hall and a library/media center! Most of these spaces have customized video components and individual audio zones. The vibe is customized so that the massage room and library are playing soothing sounds while the pub has more upbeat music. It was so fun to really dig into the uses of each space to help customize the perfect environment for the residents.

A Place to Call Home

We learned learned a lot about the unique sensory needs for certain residents during this project! We worked with the Developer to customize a solution for the Memory Care suite of rooms for residents suffering from memory loss. These individuals can be sensitive to sound and disruption, so it was critical to take special consideration during the AV design. We customized the volume levels for their separate dining room, activity space and garden to tone down the volume and route the most peaceful music. When your memory is suffering, it’s tough to recall your room number some days! We found a solution for the Memory Care rooms to mount small 20″ LCD screens at each of their room doors. The built-in digital media player in these displays would later be loaded with photos of the resident and their family. Such a great solution as you walk down a hall of seemingly identical rooms to find one door that has photos of your grandchildren and your favorite pets of yesterday.

Music and Video Never Gets Old

This was our first experience in the world of Assisted Living Facilities and we certainly learned a lot about the unique needs for this group! But much of the nuts and bolts of the AV system is comparable to the resorts and corporate centers we have designed. Complex control systems that take into account all of the possible use case scenarios upfront – we love a challenge! The residents enjoy a movie every Friday on the projector screen in the reception hall. The pub even has Wii Bowling installed on two displays in the Pub (because Wii Bowling is in high demand for seniors, if you didn’t know!). We really enjoyed designing and installing a system that the residents will enjoy for many years to come!

How Much Does a Video Wall Cost?

When taking on a large project such as a video wall, the question that’s always on the tip of everyone’s tongue (and rightfully so), is “What will a video wall cost me?” Futuristic, high-tech, creative solutions are great, but can often come with a decent price point. Hard Rock Hotel Resort Audio Video System

We recently completed an exciting project for the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Studios Orlando, where we installed a stunning 3×3 video wall as part of their resort audio video system upgrade. This impressive video wall consists of nine 55″ displays while creating a striking centerpiece in the hotel’s newly renovated lobby.

The entire system is powered and controlled by our custom programmed interfaces. This includes all hardware, including video wall processors, audio and video sources. We used durable cat-5 cables to connect the displays, saving our client from the expense of running new power lines. This design also allowed us to integrate the video wall with the hotel’s existing audio video system, meaning the content displayed on the wall can be seen and heard throughout the hotel.

Customized Control with Ascend Studios’ iPad App

At Ascend Studios, we provide custom-branded iPad apps to control all of our resort audio video systems. For Hard Rock Hotel, we completely updated their existing control system and added new features. Now, they have easy control over the video wall, hotel-wide audio zones, and video sources, all with real-time feedback.

The app also includes integrated help files, improved Wi-Fi signal strength, HD graphics, and seamless access to our 24/7 Help Desk support. With our remote monitoring system, we can troubleshoot issues from anywhere in the world, ensuring that the system runs smoothly for guests.

    Resort-Wide Audio Video System Overhaul

In addition to the video wall, our team redesigned the entire resort audio video system, covering the pool area, five ballrooms, and all public areas of the hotel. We replaced outdated equipment from the 1999 installation and installed our preprogrammed DSP processors and Crestron control system. This upgrade provided the hotel with a fully customizable audio system, allowing easy updates and scalability.

The system, controlled via a 10″ touch screen and iPad, includes 96 audio zones, each with EQ, leveling, compression, and individual zone controls. We completed the system switch-over in a single night, minimizing disruption, and had everything up and running before 5 AM.

Key Features of the Resort Audio Video System:

    • Nine 1920×1080 HD video wall displays with remote power and video connections
    • Custom themed iPad app for seamless control of audio and video systems
    • Integration with six cable boxes, a Blu-ray player, and a music video server
    • Full integration with the hotel’s existing audio system
    • Additional high-output speakers and subwoofers for enhanced sound
    • Local video DJ HDMI input for live events at the video wall
    • 96 controllable audio zones with advanced EQ and individual zone settings
    • Free 24/7 access to Ascend Studios’ Help Desk and remote support

This upgraded resort audio video system ensures that Hard Rock Hotel provides a top-tier guest experience, with cutting-edge audio and video technology throughout their property.
